Individualized feeding treatment sessions target feeding skills and vary in frequency, intensity, and duration based upon the feeding/swallowing evaluation and recommended treatment plan to address the primary areas of concern. Objectives of treatment may include increased oral motor or oral sensory skills to improve safety and efficiency during drinking or eating, progression to more advanced solid food textures, or acceptance of various food groups and flavors. Feeding treatment sessions are generally between 30-45 minutes in length depending on the age of the child, the goals being addressed, and needs of the child. Caregivers are present and involved in the treatment plan. The clinician implements direct treatment strategies to improve feeding skills and provides caregiver with written and verbal home programming recommendations to improve success.
